Why is the beginning of the year the reset moment of our life?
Suddenly everyone wants to reset. There’s a desire, an instantaneous motivation to set new goals, make new year’s resolutions, challenge ourselves to grow, and become better versions of ourselves.
We’re such creatures of habit. At the beginning of every new year, reset activities become the focus of our lives. Does it have something to do with human nature and seasonal cycles of change, or perhaps tradition? Whatever it is, I’m guilty of it too. And I admit the beginning of the year makes me giddy.
During this time of the year, I have this urgency to look at my life as a blank canvas and to paint a portrait of who I’d like to be in the year ahead. The one who sets her vision in motion, learns new ways of being, takes action, and accomplishes her goals.
Why make a fuss about resetting now if it can happen any time during the year?
Here’s a consolation.
Reset moments can occur anytime.
Consider every morning when you rise a reset moment but be crystal clear about your motivation to reset.
Tapping into your motivation solidifies your reset. You’re going to get busy, fall off occasionally, get distracted, and encounter self-doubt. By examining and amplifying your motivation to reset, you may stay focused, conquer your fears, and whatever else keeps you from accomplishing your goals.
Resetting for me in 2021 requires adopting a growth mindset*. Whether it’s the beginning of the year or the beginning of the day, I’m motivated by my capacity to improve continuously; therefore, my goals have a better chance of being accomplished.
